I met Father Lorenzo Milani’s books by a happy coincidence a few years ago and I read them all. After that I found I wanted to visit the places where he lived, to feel their energy, to listen. In order to fully understand what these places meant, I asked Father Lorenzo's former students for help, because they used to live side by side with him and knew his unique teachings.
Thanks to them I can share what I discovered and, above all, experienced, carrying out this project I worked on for three years. Fifty years after his death, the figure of Father Milani deserved to be shown again, especially to young people, and I wanted to give my contribution.
Works
The project portrays all the places dear to Father Milani: the church and the school of San Donato in Calenzano, the little chapel of Chiusa, the widow's house, Barbiana: the aim here is to make his voice resonate loud and clear, simple, rough, clean. This is why I chose black and white, a simple compositional frame, images that sometimes show details (a staircase, a face, a door), sometimes echo the voice of meaningful places (the school courtyard in Calenzano, the classroom with empty chairs).
